On April 29th, 2022, Lifeshare, Manchester’s oldest homelessness charity, hosted their first ever charity football 5-a-side tournament at the Goals Soccer Center in Cheetham Hill. The event, which had previously been delayed due to COVID concerns finally kicked off at 3pm with 11 teams taking part.

Lifeshare Perspective:

Operational Director, Judy Vickers shared the impact of the fundraising. “So many of our typical grant funders have been delayed in meeting due to COVID they are still working though a backlog so having corporate partners to back us has been vital to deliver our services. So many have hosted coffee mornings, gathered donations, and come down to volunteer and it was amazing to finally be able to host an in-person event. Lifeshare is a family so it’s important to us to know our partners and make sure that they enjoy working with Lifeshare and get to see the impact of their generosity.”

Teams from Sedulo, AEW Architects, Syngenta, B2W Group, Cardinal, FK Facades, HE Simm, Vinci Construction, Browne Jacobson, and Strategic North met in a tournament style clash with 12 minute matches to determine a champion. Team members from many of the offices also came down to the pitch to cheer on their colleagues as well as have the chance to meet the Lifeshare team and find out what their fundraising efforts have supported. Teams enjoyed free snacks and drinks between matches along with fashionable yellow shirts for the players.

After our championship match – AEW Architects came in as the runners up and the top spot was taken by Cardinal Logistics. After totals were tallied up, the teams managed to raise £3,000 to support Lifeshare’s outreach work. This funding will help to support our Weekend Breakfast Project which has recently moved indoors. This move support expanding from serving breakfasts and providing supplies to add on shower facilities, access to support service partners, and visits from health supporters including barbers, podiatrists, opticians, and dentists.

This charity football tournement will be held annual as part of Lifeshare’s corporate partnership programme. If your company is interested in joining forces with Lifeshare, click the button below to fill out an interest form! We help you have fun, while making a difference.
